Trip Lever Drain Stopper Stuck

My bathtub won t drain due to a stuck lever type drain stopper.

It moves the stopper in the opposite direction to the lift rod. I m trying to fix our stuck bathtub drain switch so we can give our dog a real bath but the switch is stuck. When you push or pull on the lift rod it activates a lever the extends through the drain tailpiece. I removed the face plate and tried to pull out the rod and stopper but it will not budge.

After watching a few videos on the internet it seemed pretty simple. This is usually due to the spring mechanism behind the faceplate. The lever on your bathtub operates the hidden stopper in the drain. But after cleaning it and finding nothing you probably realized that it is just that the drain stopper is stuck in the closed position.

The lever hooks onto the stopper through a hole or hook on the bottom of a long plastic flange that s attached to the stopper. Unscrew the plate pull out the mechanism untangle or replace it and screw the plate back in. It s probably been many years since it was used to stop the water in the tub. Usually the problem is easy to fix though the procedures vary depending on what type of tub stopper you have.

Any bathtub drain stopper that doesn t do its job is an annoying inconvenience. Have taken off overflow to try to remove the mechanism. If you have not used the lever in a while you might find that it is stuck. If it won t go down you probably thought it was clogged with hair or something.

Hiram oh the trip lever waste and overflow drain plunger will not come out of drain pipe. I ve tried lubricant hot vinegar and muscle. It can be pretty annoying when you take a shower and the water starts puddling around your feet.
